Bucket List - Introduction

I recently found, in a bargain corner of a bookshop, a thick tome called "1001 movies you must see before you die", an attempt to catalogue, in age order 1001 of the greatest movies ever made. I'm sure that it's not the most illustrious list of must see films, I'm sure it's left out some greats and included some strange choices - but that doesn't matter, because it's inspired me to watch the greats and the classics from the history of cinema.

In this series, I intend to watch a "must see" movie as often as possible and write about my personal experience with the film as well as what it taught me. I will divide each post into two parts; firstly what I experienced as a viewer and secondly what lessons can I take from it to my own projects.

This is not a critical review of the movies, I will be focusing on describing my take on these films and I will try to keep things positive, looking at what I liked and not focusing on what I didn't. I am no film buff, I have had no education in the area. I have not seen a huge number of the movies in the list and it is important to say that I will not be researching them before or after viewing, if I can possibly help it, beyond the very basics, year of production, genre, names of the creators etc - so I will almost certainly interpret things poorly and make mistakes in my analysis. I'm Ok with that! This blog is primarily a resource to help me, if I am putting other peoples words, thoughts and ideas into it, it will become a giant repository of nothing useful to me, as reading it back won't evoke the ideas and thoughts I had while watching the movie.
